Zwei Handgriffe

Zeig die Karte. Steuer die Stimmung.

01 · Battlemap at the table

The map is on the table - without anyone seeing your GM layer.

Open the player window on TV or projector, pull back fog when the party enters a room, and keep sight lines and grid tools to yourself. No player sees more than they should.

  • ◆ Reveal fog of war room by room
  • ◆ Dedicated player window for the second screen
  • ◆ Grid, measurement & blackout in one click

02 · Control atmosphere

One control for the mood - not three open players.

Music, ambience, and combat run as separate layers. Switch into combat mode, fade in rain, fire a quick sound effect from the soundboard - without falling out of the scene.

  • ◆ Music, ambience & combat as separate channels
  • ◆ Scenes as reusable soundscapes
  • ◆ Soundboard for spontaneous moments
The long-term core

RollBerry brings everything into one local VTT suite.

Why the real table

"Why build a local tool instead of just playing online?"

Because things happen at a real table that no video call captures. The small grin before someone says a foolish idea. The shared breath while the die is still rolling. The hand reaching for chips while the party quietly makes a plan.

Online geht viel davon verloren.

That is exactly what RollBerry is made for. Local, because your table belongs to you - not to a server.

FAQ

Before you download.

Do I need an account or subscription?+

No. RollBerry apps run locally on your machine. No login, no subscription, no payment requirement. Download and start.

Is this for online play or the real table?+

For the real table. RollBerry assumes you are in the same room: you control the laptop, players see the second screen. It does not replace an online VTT platform - it does not want to.

Why local instead of online?+

Because the real table carries what makes the hobby special: reading faces, laughing together, hearing dice roll. Online loses much of that - connections stutter, people talk over each other, and everyone stares at tiles. RollBerry keeps the table in focus and the tech in the background. Local also means no server outage, no account, no cloud - your campaign belongs to you.

Show the map, play the soundtrack - and stay with your table.

Find the right tool for your next game night in 30 seconds. Free, local, no account.

WHY · Why RollBerry exists

For the nights people still talk about weeks later.

RollBerry did not begin with the wish for another VTT. It began with the wish to protect a shared night—and make technology good enough to fade into the background again.

The starting point

“Why build a local tool instead of simply playing online?”

Because things happen at a real table that no video call can capture. The small grin before someone voices a foolish idea. Everyone holding their breath while the die is still rolling. A hand reaching for the bowl of chips while the group quietly makes a plan.

Online sessions have their place. RollBerry deliberately serves a different moment: people sharing a room, reading faces, laughing together, and living through a story that should not be interrupted by connection issues, logins, or browser windows.

That night matters to me.

That is why the technology should support it, not replace it: the map on the projector, fog with one click, the right track for the right scene—and then the tool fades into the background again. No login, no cloud, no “Who cannot hear me?”. Just your group, the table, and the story.

That is exactly what RollBerry is made for. Local, because your table belongs to you—not to a server.

What RollBerry is here to protect

Not more screen. More shared night.

A personal motivation becomes clear decisions about what the product should be—and what it deliberately should not become.

Presence over platform

People and their story remain at the center. RollBerry carries work without demanding attention for itself.

Calm over feature noise

Powerful does not mean overloaded. Tools appear where they make a decision faster and safer.

Ownership over dependency

Campaigns are long-term creative work. Data and media stay local, understandable, recoverable, and under your control.

Reliability over demo appeal

A feature is only finished when it holds up with large maps, many tokens, and time pressure at a real table.

The product standard

Decide faster under pressure. Doubt less. Stay with the table.

RollBerry does not need to copy every feature from other VTTs. It needs to be better in the workflows that matter during a real session.

  • The player view is a promise.Hidden information stays hidden; visible state remains explicit.
  • Performance is product quality.A session should not fail because a scene grows large or the night runs long.
  • Evidence beats claims.Quality, safety, and stability are tested, measured, and visibly reviewed.
  • Beta means honest collaboration.Rough edges are named; experience from real sessions flows directly back into the product.
Why I keep building it

I am not building RollBerry to check as many boxes as possible on a comparison table. I am building it so technology can carry a great game night—calmly, reliably, and under the game master's control.

About RollBerry

From real sessions. For real tables.

Why RollBerry exists

There are great online VTTs, but they are built for online play. At a real table you do not want to set up a platform, log players in, or maintain a server. RollBerry fills that gap: digital support that stays in the background.

Why local-first

Your campaign is valuable. It does not belong in a third-party cloud that can change prices or shut down tomorrow. Everything runs locally on your machine - no account, no dependency, no data ending up somewhere you do not control.

Why real tables

The best part of the hobby is the moment everyone sits at the same table. RollBerry does not want to replace that moment; it protects it. The tech serves the night, not the other way around.

How it is built

Priority goes to what is actually needed at the table. Features come from real play and feedback, not from a list that wants to be as long as possible. As a solo/indie project, that means honest beta states, visible progress, and open communication about what does not work yet.

Why the apps are not signed yet

Code-signing certificates for Windows and macOS cost recurring money. For an indie project in beta, this is a deliberate intermediate step. Your system may show a warning on first launch. That is expected, not a defect. Signed builds are on the roadmap.

📦

What "beta" means here

The apps are usable at the table, but still in active development. Expect rough edges and changes between versions. Back up important data as usual. In return, your feedback flows straight into the next build.

✅

What stays local

  • ✓ Maps, sound files, and notes
  • ✓ Campaigns, NPCs, and handouts
  • ✓ Settings and scenes
🚫

What is not transferred

No account, no campaign tracking, no automatic cloud backup. There is no RollBerry server storing your game data. What you do not share yourself stays with you.

Installation - step by step

Windows
  1. Download and open the file.
  2. For SmartScreen: "More info" -> "Run anyway".
  3. Install and launch.
macOS
  1. Move the app to Applications.
  2. Right-click -> Open on first launch.
  3. Confirm Open in the dialog.
Linux
  1. Download the AppImage.
  2. Make it executable (chmod +x).
  3. Launch - done.

To verify · Exact dialog labels may vary by operating system version.

Privacy in plain language

The desktop apps work locally. They do not need an account and do not send your game data to us. What you create in MapBerry or RollBerry Sounds stays on your device.

The website and browser tools run in the browser; the usual privacy notice applies. The full privacy policy is linked - this section only summarizes it plainly.

Sources & rules versions

The integrated toolbox uses a structurally checked, curated subset of SRD 5.2.1; individual entries have not all completed editorial review. Records with detected issues are hidden. The separately labelled bilingual catalogs for monsters, animals, spells, and equipment still use SRD 5.1; each page states its rules version explicitly.
